Summary

The Lesser Slave Lake Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation is being built to serve these 3 major functions: research, education, and tourism.

The building has been designed to operate largely "off-grid”. There is no piped gas, no piped water or sewer. The centre features geotechnical heating/cooling, composting toilets, waterless urinals, rainwater collection and purification, and natural ventilation.

The new Centre is to house up to 20 staff and 60 visitors within its of usable area and was designed for flexibility, expandability in 2 directions, and uniqueness to the Slave Lake Region.
