Summary

The Heavy Equipment Training Centre (HETC) is a new 5500 m2 (59,200 ft2) facility for research and instruction in heavy duty diesel mechanics and related transportation industry trades. The project is located on the Notre Dame campus of Red River College, Manitoba's largest college. Project goals include an energy efficiency target of 33% below Model National Energy Code, and LEED Silver certification. Notable strategies employed include provision of natural ventilation and daylighting to improve instruction throughout workshop and laboratory areas, and use of geothermal and transpired solar collector technology to reduce overall energy consumption. Comprehensive Integrated Design services were provided by Smith Carter Architects and Engineers of Winnipeg.
