This new Roman Catholic High School is being built by Christ the Redeemer Catholic School Division, on a 20 acre site, just outside of Okotoks with an incredible view of the Rocky Mountains. The site has been designed in a campus setting with the adjacent St. James Roman Catholic Church that will be built in the future. The school is a two storey steel structure on concrete piles. The core building has been designed for 500 students. Catholic symbolism is an integral part of the design.
Some of the Sustainable Design Elements that have been incorporated into the design are:
-this project will qualify for the full CBIP grant and will achieve at least a 47% energy savings above the MNBC
-we are trying to achieve a 40% water savings
-a displacement ventilation system that delivers 100% fresh air
-stormwater is managed on site through the use of bioswales
-good indoor air quality is extremely important; we are using products in the interior that have a low VOC content.
-as much natural light as possible is being brought into the interior spaces.
