The Town of Newmarket Operations Centre will contain offices for the municipal Public Works, Operations, Parks and Facilities staff, as well as workshops and fleet vehicle maintenance and storage bays. The building has been designed to provide an exceptional work environment for all employees, whether they are located in private offices or a double-height repair garage. A three story entry atrium provides ventilation and daylight to the offices, cafeteria and meeting spaces, as well as views from the mezzanine level onto an intensive green roof. The vehicle storage, repair and wash areas are all fully daylit using 100% glazed overhead doors. The building will feature a high-albedo roof membrane, rainwater collection for irrigation of the green roof area and adjacent landscaping, and geothermal heating and cooling. Also on the site will be located a salt and sand shed for the storage of aggregates, a greenhouse for the care of plants to be used throughout the municipality, and a works yard with the potential for a biodeisel fueling station and plug-in stations for hybrid and electric cars. The site perimeter will be landscaped using only native plants that require no maintenance.
