Remington Development Corporation is developing their Head Office building in their Quarry Park Community in southeast Calgary. The Quarry Park Community is a 314 acre work/live/play development that is reclaiming an exhausted gravel pit between 2 the two existing residential communities of Riverbend and Douglasdale Ultimately, Quarry Park will include approximately 1.7 million square feet of office, 90,000 square feet of retail space, 2090 housing units and 80 acres of parks and open space, all connected with a series of pathways.
The Remington Development Corporation Head Office Building is situated in the northern part of the development and is an integral part of the commercial/retail area. The building is an 8,320 sq. m., 3 storey office building situated at the corner of 18th Street SE and Quarry Park Blvd SE – the entrance to the new Quarry Park development. The location of the building at the corner of the site addresses the site’s position on the periphery of the existing Riverbend residential community to the north and the new Quarry Park residential community to the west.
Significant tree planting and landscape provides buffers to the residential areas. The on-site storm water management facility has been situated directly south of the building and becomes a decorate pond feature at the visible SE corner of the site. To the north, in the landscape buffer areas, an outdoor amenity space is provided for the building occupants. In addition, the building has a roof top amenity patio space which will be surrounded by the buildingÂ’s green roof planted with native plants and grasses.
The building consists of a structural steel frame with an envelope of glass curtain wall and natural stone cladding. A variety of roof and building overhangs, canopies and solar shading are being incorporated. The building will be constructed by Remington Development Corporation using sustainable methodologies and will be a model of future LEED buildings for their company.
