The facility is 1480 s.m. of gross floor area and contains approximately 1000sm of useable area. The primary function of the pavilion is to provide a year round barrier free connecting link between RBG Centre and the Hendrie Park Gardens. The conceptual approach to the design of the pavilion is to provide an autonomous circulation route to the gardens around the perimeter of a multipurpose Hall which is located in the center of the pavilion. The Hall is designed to support both botanical displays & social functions for both public and private use. These two programmatic requirements result in a design solution that requires both substantial glazing to sustain the plants and a fully conditioned environment to ensure the viability of the Hall as a rentable assembly space.
