Westside Lofts is a new loft project located in former industrial lands of the Queen West Triangle. Future residents of Westside Lofts will enjoy this emergent Queen Street West district, newly revitalized by The Drake Hotel, art galleries, shops, and restaurants.
The project consists 414 loft units in two mid-rise buildings that share a central terraced landscape area. Its common amenity area is celebrated in a centrally located, three storey high space.
Suites within the building are designed to emphasize the flexibility and breadth of the 3 m high loft interiors. All partitions, within the unit, are 7'6" to mazimize the open feel of the loft. The unit designs consolidate the kitchen and washroom into a freestanding pod that maximizes the live, sleep and work areas of the loft. All live-work units at grade are directly accessible to the exterior through their own door.
The exterior elevations employ full-height, floor-to-ceiling glazing throughout to amplify available natural illumination and ventilation. A series of coloured, vertical fins, distributed across the elevation provide a unique identity for the project and serve as an external shading device for the large area of glazing.
